ADULT DOGS
When a dog licks another dogs teeth or mouth, it can be a sign of affection, respect, or a request for playtime. In general, it’s the opposite of aggression and can be quite normal.
PUPPIES AND YOUNGER DOGS
During infancy, puppies communicate their hunger through whimpering and licking their mom. This behavior can continue into adulthood and demonstrate submission or respect for another dog.
A SNACK
As disgusting as it may sound, dogs can sense what another dog has recently eaten. If the previous meal smells delicious, the dog may be going after the “doggie bag”.
